From Logo to Keepsake: The Salvage Surgeon

Sometimes a bespoke project starts with a request for just one special item. That was the case when a customer contacted Gravesham Trophy Centre with a logo and an idea for a bronze-effect coin for her husband.

From the first conversation to the finished piece, the project was about understanding the look she wanted and finding a way to bring it to life.

The initial enquiry

Following a conversation with Michelle, our customer emailed her logo and outlined her idea: a bespoke coin or medal, approximately 50mm across, with an antique-style bronze finish.

She only needed one. She understood that producing a single bespoke piece was an unusual request and that creating the mould would account for much of the cost.

We spoke to our supplier and confirmed that a one-off piece was possible. With that first question answered, we could start working through the design together.

Exploring the artwork

Finding the right finish

After we sent an initial design example, our customer clarified an important detail. She wanted an embossed finish, all in bronze effect, rather than coloured enamel: something with the character of a coin.

That helped establish the direction for the next stage. We explored a different production method to achieve the raised, three-dimensional effect she was looking for.

We also discussed the shape: should the logo sit inside a round coin, or should the piece follow the outline of the logo itself? She was open to either approach, with the embossed detail and bronze-effect finish being her priorities.

These conversations are an important part of a bespoke order. An initial image gives us a starting point, while feedback helps us understand which details matter most to the customer.

Seeing the design in 3D

With the revised approach established, we sent an updated design and quotation for an embossed 3D-effect medal. Our customer gave us the go-ahead, and we also shared 3D renders to help her visualise the design.

The project had progressed from a supplied logo and a description of the desired finish to a design ready to be made.

The finished keepsake

The finished coin brought Foxy, The Salvage Surgeon, to life in raised detail on a circular bronze-effect background. The fox character, complete with goggles and tools, sits alongside a car, with a cog motif behind and the name displayed across a raised banner.

Lighter raised surfaces and darker recessed areas give the design depth, helping the character and lettering stand out. The result shows how a detailed design can become a tactile, three-dimensional keepsake.

On 10 August, we let our customer know that the piece was complete and ready to be sent. The following day, she confirmed it had arrived and told us that her husband loved it.

That response was a lovely end to the project. A request for a single bespoke coin had become a personal keepsake, developed through a conversation about the design, shape and finish.
